The satchel - The need

Do you wonder what goes on in the minds of the product team when they develop a new concept? Well, we did too, so we dared to ask THE question: how did they come up with the idea for the new product: the schoolbag?

To begin with, we had to study, research, find out, research, re-study, observe what was already being done and what could be done... in short, it was a lengthy process before arriving at our first conclusions, with not one, but two models, for the little ones and the big ones!

The main finding was that the world of schoolbags is highly standardized, with well-defined formats and very similar designs.

So, for the first model of the schoolbag, we decided to follow this rectangular design, but of course with our own cabaïesque touch!

Like the others, it had to be customizable. Because, like us, children's tastes change over time, so what could be better than being able to keep the same schoolbag from one year to the next, even if we no longer like blue dragons and prefer unicorns?

The other challenge was that it had to be neither too big nor too imposing, but still have plenty of capacity, so as not to look like a turtle carrying its whole house on its back...

For the second design, there was THE risk-taking, like when you send a risky message to your crush, or when you propose an idea in a meeting and there's a big blank... everyone looks at each other quizzically, and in the end, everyone's won over.

The novelty here is that we've thought of a large model, different from what we're used to seeing: a vertical design!

But tell me Hugo, why vertical? According to our research and tests, the most ergonomic format, and one that's adapted to our growing desires, is the vertical one. With this format, we can add expandable compartments, including 3 pockets with elastic bands to slide in anything that doesn't fit in the main compartment.

We've worked on the size so that the bag is compact and suitable for every child! And with its structure and removable flap, it's obviously also totally customizable, just like the first design.

Developing this new product is a real adventure! After this very interesting stage, there's still a lot of work to be done... not least the long road of prototyping.

See you in a few days for the rest of our adventures...
